Bathroom Storage: Where to Put the Towels

If you’re anything like me, you’ll have guest towels tucked in the back of a linen closet and only show up when visitors arrive. Or, your towel just hangs on a boring hook and is lifeless. It got me thinking: there has to be a better way to display my towels in the bathroom in an organized and stylish way. My hunt began with a favorable result. As you’ll see in the photo below, there are a variety of ways to incorporate bathroom towels appropriately into your décor. Scroll through and say a happy goodbye to your worries with a towel.

If you’re leading the way (considering you’re currently doing or planning a remodel), make a list of all the items you need to store in your bathroom and then make sure to make space for them. The architect cleverly created a square storage space on the tile body of the bathtub. This is the best place to store extra towels.

Towel rails aren’t just for walls. Consider placing them directly on the built-in bathroom near the sink. In fact, hand towels are no longer a backup necessity, but become part of the overall look.

Is there a freestanding bathtub? Add a railing along the edge to hang towels! This is a very simple solution to easily remove towels from the tub, and the exterior adds interesting details to the exterior of the tub.

Don’t want to add anything to the tub? Go to the flea market to find unique items that can act as towel racks. This distressed piece brings charm and practicality to the space.

If you’re in the planning stages of your bathroom, there’s another idea: storage space between cabinets. Simply lift the countertop and slide in four narrow slats, and this homeowner has immediate access to useful towel storage space.

Design tip: If you’re displaying a towel, be sure to consider its appearance by coordinating colors and patterns. This orange color contrasts with the sea green tiles.

Consider creating a display shelf by rolling up a series of individual hand towels and placing them in wicker baskets, rather than shelves. Guests will love the look and use of clean towels. Be sure to provide a separate place for used towels.

Found in antique shops, this scale was once used in grocery stores to hold fruits and vegetables, and when repurposed as a towel rack, it’s especially interesting and unique.

Sometimes, the best solution for towels (and other accessories) is to add freestanding cabinets for optimal storage. If that’s the case, look for an interesting piece, such as this distressed antique. Glass doors make it easy for guests to find what they’re looking for.

As it turns out, the basket is indeed your best friend in the bathroom. Placing a stylish basket next to the tub will bring the towels closer together and add a visual element.

Think of stylish shelves with open spaces: it’s a very clean and modern way to incorporate towels into your décor. I love the way the gems are placed on the top shelf to achieve unique design details that juxtapose aesthetics with function.

If you’re looking for an extra element of interest, consider a ladder. The rungs provide a great place for hanging and displaying. This is a slight cheat as this ladder is displayed in the living space, but it can be easily replicated in the bathroom.

Get help from your friends! Hanging a towel on a sculpture or other suitable accessory is fun and smart. Guests are sure to be thrilled by your creativity!
